Welcome to MWM Financial Group

We are excited to announce a five year commitment that we have made to supporting and promoting a new and unique program with the Wilfred Laurier Faculty of Music! In partnership with Laurier, we have established The MWM Financial Group Distinguished Artist Series. This series will be made up of annual performances and master classes that are open to students and the public, performed by world class ‘masters’ in their own musical field such as wind, voice, strings, percussion. This series is designed to connect world-class performers with Laurier students and Waterloo Region residents, in a way that most will never have another opportunity to do. We hope that you will be able to join us in supporting the performing arts.

Master Class: If you’ve never been to a Master Class, it’s something like this: a relatively small number of people perform prepared pieces for a musician who is outstanding in the field. The expert listens carefully, and then offers suggestions, constructive criticism, and demonstrates technique. The people who play for the Master Class learn a lot, and it’s astonishing to hear their performance level improve right then and there. The odd thing is how interesting it is for complete non-musicians to listen in on one of those sessions. We might not know exactly what overblowing or spizzicato are, but just by listening to the music, and listening to the teaching, we are given insights about the inner workings of music.
